I bought this for my soon to be 4 DD. We are very excited to see her score baskets in this very sturdy portable, height adjustable basketball system. The black backboard is fixed and appears durable. The packaging says fade resistant and weatherproof and so it looks. The hoop will fit a rookie size and regulation size spalding basket balls. We have both (does not come with this). This has a 10gallon HDPE base, which you can fill with sand or water. We filled in water and it is doing fine, i guess sand is heavier and just in case it has or develops a leak you are safer with sand coz then it won’t tip over on your precious little one. If you do fill it with water, i recommend checking the water level often. We bought it on a warehouse deal and it turned out to be amazing, as good as the description. My DD tried and scored a few times on the lowest setting, it is so much fun specially since we have an outdoor activity in which we all can participate.
- Works for us and our 10-year-old! 120lbs. sand. Recommend sand for colder climates. Assembly was not difficult.
Bought this as a birthday gift for our 10-year-old who is maybe 55" tall (? not sure. He’s constantly growing). He loves it. I don’t think I have it at it’s highest setting. I put it up to the second notch at his request. I’m kind of short myself and not so strong, so putting it up any higher by myself wasn’t an option. That being said, I did put most of it together by myself. You definitely need 2 people to a) fill it with sand and b) attach the backdrop (unless you have 3 arms, then it would be ok :p). So I enlisted my husband when it got to those points. We opted for sand rather than water because living in the Northeast, we can get some severe winters, and I didn’t want water to freeze and expand, potentially damaging the plastic. Plus water just gets icky. Since I went crazy trying to find out HOW MUCH SAND I will tell you we used two (2) 60lb. bags of all-purpose sand from a home improvement store. In retrospect, play sand would have flowed more smoothly. We did lose some of the sand, but you can definitely tell when it’s enough. So PLAN FOR 120lbs of SAND! You heard it here. Plus I think it says it somewhere in the instructions, but I couldn’t find it again. We play it in our backyard on the grass because I don’t trust the neighborhood (sad I know). So for what we need it for, it’s great. Someone who might be rougher, bigger, etc. might want the next level up. The basket is strangely short, but it doesn’t interfere with the ball–and we do have a standard ball. I hope my review has answered all of your questions and if not feel free to leave a comment! Also there is a youtube video out there of a guy putting it together and that was helpful.
- Easy set up and several different way to stabilize the …
Grandson loves this! Easy set up and several different way to stabilize the bottom section so it doesn’t fall over. We move it around quite a bit and just anchor it with a weighted sand bag on each side. Works great and when you want to move it just take off the bags.
- Perfect range of sizes for kids 10 and under. Easy assembly. My 6yo loves it.
I got this for my son for his 6th birthday as he’s been really getting into basketball. I was tempted to get a bigger model but I’m glad I didn’t. This is just the right size for kids 10 and under. The range of heights are perfect for younger kids. We have it in the middle setting and that has been just right for my son.
It was also quite quick/easy to assemble with the exception of filling the base. They say you *can* put water in the base but that you’ll need to check for leaks. The instructions really didn’t give me much confidence that the base would be leakproof for sure. So I went to Home Depot and got 1 bag of sand to put in it. Once the sand was in it was great, but filling that base with sand through the 1" – 1.25" hole can be pretty tedious but it is probably that way on most basketball hoops.
- Perfect for indoor and outside
Perfect for indoor and outside. Son loves to shot inside and he loved it. We have a 9′ basement and this can be lowered to around 6.5′ and can go up to full 9′-10′ (have not tried going higher yet). Not a full-size backboard but just what we wanted for indoor. We used weights to hold down bottom rather than water/sand for now. Looked at several types and decided on this one. The small wall hung boards for mini balls are okay, but always afraid of ripping off the wall.
- Good first hoop
Son loves it and this is year two with the hoop
I have a daughter that is three years old and expect 6 to 7 years out of the item without a problem
its great for them.
The hoop is normal size for adult ball with a small net for a smaller sized ball . so i guess thats to control a small ball that goes in..It works.
The backboard is very smaller than average size. So summary ….adult size hoop with smaller than normal backboard. For kids this is fine for their first hoop.
Im happy with the price and quality . I had to pay close attention when reading the directions building is a little confusing but i think after one or two mistakes ..just dont tighten anything up too tight before you know exactly that its right .I think theyre is a situation where if you put the wrong piece in a certain spot it will bend and youll up river without a paddle so take a minute and go over the directions with a fine tooth comb.
Now if i can just change the 30 degree slope of my driveway my boy would be super happy to stop chasing the ball
My son is three and absolutely obsessed with sports and great at basketball. He had quickly outgrown the plastic fisher price hoop and he is not ready for a full size hoop. This does require about ten minutes of assembly and two people would have greatly reduced this time. This perfect for all my kids up to 7 but I think by 10 or do it will be outgrown. They use this at our gym for the toddler basketball and open gym is where I first saw it.
- Great hoop for younger kids!
My kids love it. Great entry-level, portable youth hoop. Good construction and assembly is simple and quick. Hoop level ranges from 5.5 – 7.5ft which means it doesn’t take up much space. Would have been even better if it went to 8 ft, but given I guess the size/footprint would need to be larger. Durability seems good and looks like it will last a decent amount of time. I originally filled it partially with water and then added BaseGel, now its a solid base without sloshing or the worry of gallons of water leaking out. Rim diameter is slightly smaller than a full size hoop, but still doesn’t have any issue with a regular side ball going through, let alone a 28.5 or 27.5 one for kids.
- Great buy
This hoop was inexpensive and my kids love it. My 5, 8 and 11 year old all use it, isn’t to heavy to move around even when it’s filled (we used water). I was a little disappointed in that one wheel didn’t fit right until I removed some plastic from the base, I believe it was formed wrong. But a small sacrifice for a great piece of equipment. Also, when it rains, it fits in the garage for the kids to use.
- any bad reviews about this product is absolute BS
Bought this for my 4 year old son who is obsessed with basketball and Lebron James lol.. any bad reviews about this product is absolute BS. We are a basketball family and know a quality hoop when we see one. It is durable, looks great and is adjustable. Must buy especially for the price, I was hesitant about getting my son a hoop that was $200 or more. I came across this and I am so happy and my son is even happier. Definitely one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. If you’re contemplating on buying this for you little one… buy it! You won’t regret it!
